A Cancelled Kickstarter With A Happy Ending

We all hear lots of stories about Kickstarters turning out all wrong and not going according to the promised plan. The Kickstarter for Jet-Getters, a multiplayer jet game, almost sounds like one of those stories when you consider it was recently cancelled—but in twist, the cancellation turned out to be a good thing for everyone involved.

Before today, the game was hoping to raise $50,000—and it did. But then it turned out that the developer, Tiny Build, found an investor for the game—which means they have to spend time bringing those partners up to speed and hiring additional people. Which means more development time. But instead of just keeping the money or delaying the game, they cancelled the Kickstarter according to the game’s Kickstarter page:

The main reason for this is because we feel strongly that if we promise something, we better damn well deliver on it and with the few month delay we won’t be able to deliver JetGetters this year.

We have a reputation to uphold and don’t want to be lumped in with all the other kickstarters that have been delayed and or abandoned. Being up front and honest about everything is always what we strive for.

That’s all well and good for the developers, but what about the backers? Well, they’re getting their money refunded—and then on top of that, they’re being rewarded with all seven of the developer’s games. That’s a $51 dollar value that everyone gets, regardless of how much they donated. Pretty good deal for a cancelled Kickstarter, no?

Jet-Getters is scheduled for a 2015 release on Steam and Ouya.
