The guy who voiced Adam Jensen hosted The Canadian Video Game Awards this past weekend. In its fourth year, the industry celebration inadvertently became a gathering of first-class voice actors. But, as you can see in the backstage video with Deus Ex: Human Revolutionâs Elias Toufexis and Far Cry 3âs Michael Mando, they donât all get along.
That bit of improvised fun is great but the CVAs actually go a long way to showing that Canada is a video game development power that ranks right up there with the United States and Japan. Or listen to what Scott Jonesâco-host of video game culture TV show The Electric Playground, along with CVAs co-founder Victor Lucas âhas to say:
Having lived as an ex-patriot here in British Columbia for four years now, and having gotten the chance to get to know a lot of game developers located here (and in Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton) on a personal level, one other thing that Canadians are unfortunately known for is being overly humble. Seriously, these folks seem reluctant to take credit for anything. Thatâs where the CVAâs come in. This is the one day out of the year when Canadian game-makers put aside their humbleness and, very reluctantly, step into the spotlight.
They deserve that spotlight, too. Look over the list of nominees and winners from the past weekendâs awards. FIFA â13. Assassinâs Creed III. Papo & Yo. Mark of the Ninja. Whether itâs AAA or indie, great stuff is happening in Canada.
