Activision and EA Settle Case Over Call of Duty [Update]

Activision and EA have agreed to file a settlement agreement in their dispute over Call of Duty, according to a Bloomberg report

The settlement is from a countersuit brought by Activision against EA accusing them of attempting to pry Jason West and Vince Zampella away from them. The initial suit was brought against Activision by West and Zampella after the two were fired from Activision in 2010. That case remains unresolved and if anything, appears to have gotten uglier.

The LA Times’ Ben Fritz reports that a joint statement issued today by the two companies reads “Activision and EA have agreed to put this matter behind them.”

UPDATE – Reached for comment, West & Zampella’s lawyer Bobby Schwartz has told Kotaku “We are delighted. This makes our case against Activision even clearer. Activision dragged EA into the case hoping to distract from Activision’s wretched conduct towards West and Zampella. In dismissing EA today, Activision admits that it was never going to convince anyone that EA conspired with West and Zampella to breach their contracts or did anything else improper. And now Activision will have to answer for its misconduct towards West and Zampella.”

UPDATE 2 – EA’s lawyers have told Kotaku, “We’ve said from the start, this is a case about Jason & Vince, two artists who are being persecuted for simply asking to be paid for their work. We stand behind them and think that Activision’s campaign to smear their reputation is reprehensible. We wish them a speedy trial so they can collect the money they are owed, and get back to making great games.”
