While theyāve got nothing to show and arenāt even sure itās going to happen, Gearbox Software and SEGA want everyone to know that thereās a chance Aliens: Colonial Marines might appear on the Wii U, possibly.
Game development isnāt an exact science. One can never tell if a new game will work on a new system, so Gearbox has their R&D department working on seeing if theyāre going to create Aliens: Colonial Marines for the Wii U, now that the system has debuted and everyone seems to like it. Seriously, the official announcement says āAliens: Colonial Marines for this new gaming console is currently under construction by a dedicated research and development branch within the studio.ā
How very odd. Generally you either announce a game, or you hold off until youāre sure. This is the first time in memory Iāve seen a press release stating a game might be made for a console.
āWe are extremely thrilled about the potential of the Nintendo Wii U and are honored to be a part of the earliest efforts for research and development on the platform with the Aliens: Colonial Marines project that is so perfectly matched with the platformās unique and exciting new capabilities,ā said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. āAs more details about the Nintendo Wii U emerge, Gearbox Software is equipped and motivated to engage and support the platform and its customers.ā
Update: The above quote is from the official press release, and Iām still pretty confused about the whole thing, so we contacted Randy Pitchford directly to help clear up any confusion.
āWe have pledged our support as has Sega,ā Pitchford told Kotaku. āNo release date can be announced, of course, and we have dependancies with some future information that we must respect our partners to reveal.
āWe hoped our press release clearly announced our support, but accounted for the realities of uncertainty with emerging platforms. I am sorry if that left a confusing message for you or your readers. We will be excited to reveal more details soon about the game on Nintendoās new platform.ā
There, all cleared up now.
