Are game developers creating games, or are they creating art? In the case of the ten creators showcased in flavorwireās ā10 Artists Who Use Video Games as Their Mediumā I suspect it might be a little bit of both.
These are small, modest titles like Steph Thirionās Eliss, seen above. An interactive artist by trade, Thirionās 2009 iPhone game Eliss went on to win numerous accolades including an Independent Games Festival nomination and IndieCadeās Auteur Award. Not bad for a simple game of moving colored blobs with your fingertips.
Many of the artists that made flavorwireās list have been featured on Kotaku in the past. Hell, Ian Bogost of Cow Clicker fame once acted as a guest editor for the site. If anyone knows where to find the art in games, itās that guy.

While the Smithsonian is looking to mainstream games for its upcoming Art of Games exhibit, itās works like Bogostās Atari 2600 meditation game A Slow Year or Daniel Benmerguiās Today I Die that truly capture art in video game form.
