Before Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Comes Plants Vs. Zombies Vs. Facebook

While the promised sequel to the worldā€˜s most popular undead floral combat simulator is still slated for a summer release, Popcap is sowing the seeds of something more social with Plants Vs. Zombies Adventures, a Facebook game that explores the original title’s tower defense roots.

Where Plants Vs. Zombies was a corridor-based defense variant with defenders on one side and attackers on the other, Adventures is a more traditional example of tower defense. The undead hordes follow a path, which the player lines with defensive plant life.

The game plays out like a road movie, the player tasked with protecting his or her recreational vehicle from advancing undead across a wide variety of maps. Inside Social Games scored an exclusive preview of the game with more details on the game’s social aspects, which include crafting resource-generating buildings and sending zombies to destroy your friends’ resource-generating buildings.

Meanwhile, I have to settle for the company line.

ā€œPlants vs. Zombies Adventures is a highly accessible, zombie-zapping adaptation of the original game designed specifically for Facebook,ā€ said Curt Bererton, head of PopCap’s San Francisco studio where Plants vs. Zombies Adventures was designed and developed. ā€œThe game not only offers up exclusive new plants and zombies along with old favorites, it features all-new forms of zombie combat that will open PvZ to a whole new world. We like to think we’re creating a brand new twist on the classic Plants vs. Zombies that is the most social, shareable and expansive Plants vs. Zombies experience ever.ā€

That’s what I like to think every damn day, Curt.

Adventures is currently undergoing a regional close beta, or regional open beta, or it really doesn’t matter because I am not in the region they are speaking of so I can’t play. I will let you know when we can.
