Boy Credits Mario Kart After He Stops Out-of-Control Car

Ten year-old Gryffin Sanders and his four year-old brother were riding with their great-grandmother when she suddenly passed out. ā€œI tried to wake her up at first,ā€ Gryffin said. The car was going 60 miles an hour and heading towards oncoming traffic.

ā€œMy first thought was actually, is this a test or what?ā€ Gryffin told Colorado’s 9 News (via Nintendo Life). The boy took the wheel and safely steered the car into a muddy ditch on the side of the road. ā€œI wanted us to get somewhere where we could out of the way of traffic, I guess,ā€ he said.

According to Gryffin, he learned a bit about driving from playing Mario Kart. ā€œAnd, I’m pretty good at go kart driving,ā€ he added. That, combined with a cool head helped Gryffin keep his family out of harm’s way.

The great grandmother was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Colorado Springs and has apparently recovered. It’s believed she could have suffered a mild heart attack. Neither Gryffin nor his brother were injured in the incident.

Nice to see the mainstream media recognize the good games can do. It’s also nice to see a level-headed kid like Gryffin.
