For a while now, giant eyes have been a thing in Japanese anime. We should be used to them. But damn, they sure are distracting when learning about bullying. Creepy, even.
This is the work of manga artist Kaoru Igarashi, who created a manga series called Ijime (ăăă) or âbullying.â This is an important issue, and itâs great that Igarashi tackled it. I just wish the way she drew eyes wasnât so⌠yeah.
This week, the Ijime original video anime from a while back was posted on 2ch, Japanâs largest forum in a thread called âThis bullying anime is fucking funny hahahahahahahaha.â On 2ch and 2ch sites, commenters pointed out how âscaryâ the charactersâ eyes were and that the whole thing seemed somewhat surreal.
Nightmares. Endless nightmares.
In anime and manga aimed at little girls in Japan, the eyes can especially get huge, which is fine. Oddly, it makes watching Ijime all the more frightening.
You can watch the full clip below. Itâs in Japanese, but you should be able to follow alongâthat is, unless the huge eyes donât throw you off.
