Cleaning Up

Which is a good thing, because I’m going to stay with my grandfather for a while. I may have mentioned earlier his health and my family’s concern for him. For the near future I’ll be living in South Carolina, looking after him – not “taking care” of him, as he’s still very independent about a lot of things. But the family needs peace of mind that someone’s around, and I can do that and still give my grandfather the privacy he deserves. I’ll be driving across country this week. I’m not going to be on Kotaku next weekend, but I will return for March 14.

And that brings up another detail: the end of my beard. My grandfather is a Marine. As a young lieutenant, he fought on Okinawa, close to the bloodiest battle the U.S. fought in World War II. He went through that for two weeks, but didn’t shave. Once it was all over, he got a package from his commanding officer. There was no note, just a razor. Granddad’s shaved every single day since. In the interest of good order and discipline, I figured I’d join him.
