Command & Conquer Generals 2 is Launching Without a Singleplayer Campaign

Just in case the words ā€œCommand & Conquerā€ and ā€œfree-to-playā€ hadn’t got you wary enough for the upcoming C&C Generals 2, there’s now this: the game is releasing without a singleplayer story mode.

While acknowledging that one could come later, Bioware Victory general manager John Van Caneghem told PC Gamer that his team ā€œreally want to get back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer great.ā€

In his eyes, that means being able to ā€œbuild a zillion unitsā€ and ā€œgo out and kill all the bad guysā€. Which is a shame. Because in my eyes – and I’m sure plenty of other people’s as well – the roots of what made C&C great was a hammy story and even hammier cutscenes.
