The inmates at Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in The Philippines first captured the internetās imagination a few years back by doing dance routines.
There was Michael Jacksonās āThrillerā, and the Haruhi dance from the Haruhi Suzumiya anime. This time, theyāre back, burning up YouTube with their take on āGangnam Styleā.
Thereās been criticism about these dance numbersānamely that they donāt rehabilitate the prisoners or that they are a form of abuse. Some prisoners, it seems, disagree.
āBefore⦠we just get our food and go back to our cell, and if we donāt have anything to do we just talk,ā a prisoner told USA Today back in 2007. āBut it is different now. Every day we are very busy preparing to dance for our upcoming shows. We are very proud of what we have done.ā
