Released five years ago today on the PC and PlayStation 3, DC Universe Online is gearing up to invite Xbox One owners to dress up as their favorite superhero and make whooshing noises this spring.
DC Universe Online, the massively multiplayer online game that gives players the ability to fight side-by-side with characters from my second-favorite comic book publisher, was originally released by Sony Online Entertainment, which explains why it was only available for PC, PlayStation 3 and eventually PlayStation 4.
But Sony Online Entertainment is now Daybreak Game Studio, and thereâs no reason they shouldnât be getting some of that fat microtransaction cash from owners of Microsoftâs console as well. Itâs kind of old, but itâll be new to some of them.
The fifth anniversary also brings good news for PlayStation 4 and PC players that donât despise one another. Starting the week of January 25 PC and PlayStation 4 players will be able to play together via cross-play functionality. I tried adding four or five more instances or variants on the word âplayâ in there, but came up empty. Play, play, play, play, play.
Players can also expect fresh new content on a regular basis in 2016, including stuff based on the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow television series, water powers and much, much more. You canread all about that stuff here.
Letâs see, Xbox One version, PC and PS4 cross-play, updatesâthat about covers it. All thatâs missing is a colorful anniversary infographic.
Okay, weâre clear. Carry on.
