After months and months of Foxconn employees dying, the companyâs CEO finally addressed the issue. And then, another Foxconn worker fell to his death.
That makes ten deaths this year â nine by falling out of windows or off buildings and one apparently beaten to death. (Two more employees were injured in failed suicide attempts, reports news service Xinhuanet.)
Guo Tai-ming, Foxconnâs CEO, told reporters that the company is not a âsweatshopâ and admitted that it is not easy managing all 800,000 employees.
Hours later, another Foxconn employee, a 19 year-old male, plunged to his death. He had only worked at the Shenzhen plant for 42 days. It is not confirmed whether he jumped or fell from the Foxconn facility.
Foxconn is the largest electronics manufacturer in the world. Its China-based factories churn out iPods, iPads, iPhones, Kindles, PS2s, PS3s, Wiis and Xbox 360s.
