Far Cry could be going in some strange directions, judging by a survey its creator recently sent out that Eurogamer got its hands on.
According to their report, longtime Far Cry developer Ubisoft sent out a questionnaire to Far Cry 4 players, part of which asked what other settings and premises they might be interested in. Eurogamer included a page from the survey in its report with some options that sound pretty tantalizing for fans of the shooter series:
A Far Cry game in remote Alaska about surviving extreme wilderness
A Far Cry game in a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
A Far Cry game set in the Vietnam war during the 1960s
A Far Cry game set in the cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
A Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires
A Far Cry game in the Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century Americas
A Far Cry game that is set during a zombie outbreak
Blood Dragon 2: A sequel to Blood Dragon with more Rex Power Colt
A Far Cry game set in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world
A Far Cry game in the present day on a Jurassic Park style island of dinosaurs
A Far Cry game based on the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry
Before you get too excited by the idea of cocaine-smuggling vampire zombie dinosaurs from space, there are a few quick qualifications to consider here. I wasnât able to confirm the details of the survey first-hand, so I canât say for sure if these details are accurate. [UPDATE: Iâve since confirmed this. More details below] I also donât know if the survey is being conducted to help the developer settle on ideas for future expansions to Far Cry 4, or make a full-blown sequel at some later date. Or both at the same time, I guess.
Also, the fact that Ubisoft is surveying some Far Cry 4 players doesnât tell us anything about what the company is planning to do with that information. Weâve previously reported on similar surveys that were conducted for the Assassinâs Creed series, and at one point found one that was âfull of more hints than a Prima guide.â But we canât say if Ubisoft will use the Far Cry feedback it gathers in a similar way. Or if theyâll use it all, which would be really disappointing. Because, come on: who doesnât want a Far Cry game thatâs pretty much a next-gen version of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, only with more zombies, sexy vampires, and cocaine dealers thrown into the mix?

UPDATE (9:00 pm): Iâve heard back from a handful of Far Cry 4 players who took the survey, all of whom confirmed the details of the settings Ubisoft asked about in the survey. One was able to provide me with an image. Another told me, âAll the other questions were generally what I thought about Far Cry 4, such as my opinions on the characters and how important various parts of the game were.â
