Final Fantasy VII Remake Announced For PS4, Other Platforms [UPDATE]

Eighteen years and three PlayStations later, Final Fantasy VII is getting a remake. A real one. For PlayStation 4, with other platforms to follow.

Square Enix announced the news during Sony’s press conference at E3 tonight, following a day full of rumors. “Play it first on PlayStation,” read the trailer, implying that it’ll be out for PC and Xbox One too.

RPG fans have been clamoring for a remake of Final Fantasy VII since
 well, since the release of Final Fantasy VII. It’s become something of a longrunning joke, with Square Enix coming up with new dodges and excuses any time anyone asked why it hadn’t happened yet
 so this is surreal, to say the least.

Guess that PC port ain’t happening?

UPDATE (11:34pm): Square Enix just sent out an official press release, announcing that they’ve “begun production” on the remake. Sounds like this ain’t coming for a long time.

LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) – At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLC’s (SCEA) E3 press conference today, SQUARE ENIX¼ announced that it has begun production on the full remake of FINAL FANTASY¼ VII for the PlayStation¼4 computer entertainment system.

Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.
