Eighteen years and three PlayStations later, Final Fantasy VII is getting a remake. A real one. For PlayStation 4, with other platforms to follow.
Square Enix announced the news during Sonyâs press conference at E3 tonight, following a day full of rumors. âPlay it first on PlayStation,â read the trailer, implying that itâll be out for PC and Xbox One too.
RPG fans have been clamoring for a remake of Final Fantasy VII since⊠well, since the release of Final Fantasy VII. Itâs become something of a longrunning joke, with Square Enix coming up with new dodges and excuses any time anyone asked why it hadnât happened yet⊠so this is surreal, to say the least.

Guess that PC port ainât happening?
UPDATE (11:34pm): Square Enix just sent out an official press release, announcing that theyâve âbegun productionâ on the remake. Sounds like this ainât coming for a long time.
LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) â At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLCâs (SCEA) E3 press conference today, SQUARE ENIXÂź announced that it has begun production on the full remake of FINAL FANTASYÂź VII for the PlayStationÂź4 computer entertainment system.
Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.
