Most Americans pay for cloud storage the same way they pay for streaming services: every month, year after year, they see small charges add up to big long-term costs. pCloud is a Swiss cloud storage company that has a different business model: you pay once and own it forever.
The company is now running its Valentine’s Day sale which includes discounts that are usually only available on Black Friday. From February 5 to 17, 2026, lifetime storage plans will be more than 50% off: The 1TB plan goes from $435 to just $199, the 2TB plan is selling for $279 down from $599, and the 10TB plan is discounted from $1,890 to $799.
How pCloud’s Virtual Drive Technology Works
pCloud works on a virtual drive architecture which is different from traditional cloud services that sync files to every connected device and use up local storage in the process. When people install the pCloud Drive desktop app, it makes a disk drive that looks like a normal one on their computer. On Windows systems, this drive is usually called the P: drive. The most important difference is that files saved on this virtual drive only live in the cloud, not on the user’s real hard drive.
This solves a big problem for people who don’t have a lot of local storage: A MacBook Air with 128GB of storage can access terabytes of cloud data without using up any of its own disk space. When you double-click on a file, it opens directly from the cloud which makes it seem like it’s stored locally without the space issues. For users who need to access files offline, pCloud has a separate “Sync” feature that lets you sync files between specific local folders and the cloud in both directions.
pCloud Photos is a feature of pCloud that automatically organizes photos by date and lets you navigate through a timeline. Users can use the built-in photo editor to apply eight preset filters or change the brightness, contrast, highlights, and shadows by hand. They can do all of this in the cloud without having to download files first. Paid plans keep old versions of documents for 30 days, so you can get them back if you make a mistake or delete them by accident. The platform lets you share links that are password-protected and have expiration dates that you can change.
pCloud has an optional Crypto add-on that lets users encrypt their files on their own computers for extra security. Even pCloud’s own infrastructure can’t access files that have been encrypted with Crypto and the encryption happens on the user’s device before the files are uploaded. The company’s Swiss base follows strict privacy rules to protect data, and users can choose whether their files are stored in US or European data centers based on their preferences.
Lifetime plans are better for the economy than subscriptions. A 2TB Dropbox subscription costs $120 a year, which adds up to $1,200 over ten years. The current 2TB lifetime plan from pCloud costs $279 and breaks even after 2.3 years. Every year after that, you save money on subscription fees. The business started in 2013 and now has more than 22 million users around the world.
The Valentine’s Day sale is a good chance for people who want to get away from subscription fatigue and get long-term digital storage infrastructure at the same time. The current prices are the lowest they’ve been all year for people who are willing to pay up front.
