The RTS game, a sadly forgotten spin-off of the Age of Empires series, used his history as one of the worldâs best AoM players to leverage his way into a successful poker career. Only, he didnât do it the obvious way. Unlike Benger, who could directly transfer some skills, Akery says it was the work ethic he learned improving his RTS play that showed him he could be successful at pro poker if he simply devoted enough time and energy to it.
âIt just made me realize you can actually get really good at something if you put in the time,â he said. âPoker seemed like a good one to put a lot of time into.â
