At the inaugural eSports Congress in Valencia, StarCraft IIâs lead designer was asked of the possibility his game would go free-to-play, considering the potential that has to grow a gameâs user base and competitive population. According to PCGamesN, that concept has been discussed.
Blizzard, the gameâs publisher is âlooking at free-to-play as an option for the multiplayer,â Dustin Browder told the Valencia eSports Congress, reports PCGamesN. Both DOTA 2 and League of Legends are free-to-play, making this a pressing issue to traditional eSports communities.
âWe donât know how we would monetize it,â Browder added. âWhile it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, thatâs not going to be an enjoyable experience for them.â
