About ARK: Survival Evolved

ARK: Survival Evolved is a survival game with a massive open world, where you are thrown into a mysterious island full of dinosaurs, prehistoric animals, futuristic buildings, and numerous other environmental pitfalls. You start with nothing, an already hungry, cold personality, and have to figure out what is happening.

As you discover the land, you will acquire resources, make crude tools, create shelters, and gradually learn to survive. It at first appears primitive to the world, but as one moves through, you find out that there is a sophisticated scientific layer all around.

One such characteristic is the domestication of more than a hundred animals, both peaceful and monstrous, which can ruin the bases within seconds. To tame, one has to make a beast too weak and then feed it till it becomes trusting of you. When it is domesticated, it can be ridden, fought with, it can be used to haul supplies, or it can be bred to be stronger.

The island has jungles, snowy mountains, caves, oceans, swamps, and ruins where the notes of the former explorers can be found. As time passes, you understand that the ARK is not only natural, it is also artificial, and it has its own lore and mission. Regardless of whether you are playing alone or in a group of hundreds, the game is about survival, exploration, and learning the environment.

Why Should I Play ARK: Survival Evolved?

A combination of freedom and difficulty in survival is a rare feature of many games, but ARK attracts the attention of players. ARK takes the concept of starting small and building up to an enormous world. From destroying trees with your punch, you can then fly across mountains with a Quetzal or a T.Rex as your tank. It is natural: your character is getting higher, domesticated creatures become stronger, your base is getting more complicated, and the enemies are more difficult.

The world is not written, and therefore, some unforeseen circumstances make the fun continue. During the construction of a shelter, you might hear a roar in the background, or you might find a rare animal that you have never seen. Predators will pursue prey whether you act or not, providing the ecosystem with a natural feel that changes after every session. ARK is also attractive to base builders: they can build massive constructions using the most high-tech components: pipes, electrical systems, gates, ladders, and automated defenses. Whole tribes work together to construct huge bases, which require days or weeks.

Multiplayer plays an additional part: you can join forces with your friends, share teams, defend bases jointly, and go to dangerous places. The PvP servers make the tension higher since you can have bases being raided when you are not online, and therefore, you need to plan the defense. The plot line is handled by introducing notes of explorers showing how the ARKs were built and the way various survivors lived in them. On the whole, ARK is an amalgamation of survival, crafting, creature taming, and random open-world adventure without dictating one main style of play.

Is ARK: Survival Evolved Free-to-Play?

ARK has a free version on mobile, with optional content and expansions, but there are features that must be purchased or downloaded. ARK is not a free-to-play game on PC and consoles, but a paid game where expansions are purchased separately or as DLCs. Depending on the platform, there are servers, mods, and custom maps.

Where Can I Download ARK: Survival Evolved?

ARK is available on virtually every platform. It is also sold on PC via Steam, and the majority of its users play using mods, custom maps, and server configurations. It is also available for sale on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, and each has its own variant and updates. iOS and Android mobile players can play ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition, a scaled version of the game with most of the main-game content, but optimized to run on phones and tablets.

Since ARK is bulky, particularly on PC and consoles, it should download a lot and require a lot of system resources. Players of the mobile game might require more data downloads. The official site contains a list of all platforms and links to all versions. Regardless of what device it uses, the fundamental experience of survival, building, and improving, taming, and even building a base is constant, but hardware performance and controls may differ.

What Games Should I Play If I Enjoy ARK: Survival Evolved?

RuneScape: Dragonwilds offers a personalized survival environment, where the world of fantasy plays a significant role in exploration and development, rather than fighting. There are no dinosaurs or hi-tech, but instead mythical creatures, magic places, and a world that is defined by missions, powers that you gain in the course of time. Similar to ARK, the game promotes grinding, crafting, exploration, and discovery of a map full of perils at a slow pace. You constantly upgrade your personality, acquire new equipment, and explore hazardous areas, building a comparable experience of development without the foundation-building nature of ARK. If you ever feel curious, you can always download it later to see how its fantasy-based survival style compares.

V Rising is a game that combines a survival and a vampire theme and is organized in the same way as ARK. You start weak, gather resources, create weapons, build a base, and kill dangerous species. It is also not taming dinosaurs but feeding on enemies to boost vampire powers. The options of building bases are extensive, and you can build Gothic castles with their defensive walls, designing stations, and ornaments. There is wandering danger, day and night, and cooperative play of clans. In case you like the combination of challenges and development in ARK, V Rising will have a slow progression with a supernatural theme. You can easily download it anytime if you want to try a darker, vampire-driven survival approach.

Raft is less about creature taming and more about making and finding, but it has the same feel of exploration. In this game, you begin with a small raft on a vast sea, collect debris to survive, build a platform bit by bit, and do everything possible to survive. The islands, caves filled with water, and ruined buildings are also good sources of resources, and there are sharks and hunger, which keep the stress high. The game slowly reveals a bigger narrative with mysterious research stations and hints regarding the future of the world. Raft is like toys on the upside: you start small and build your way up to grander things. Just download it whenever you want to experience a calmer, ocean-based survival journey.
