There is absolutely NO WAY this game is intended to say something about the state of modern video games. None whatsoever. But even if you donât care about that, its lone sex scene is one of the best Iâve ever seen in video games.
Warning: maybe NSFW, but also maybe not depending on how your employer feels about naked guns (but not like that) that represent naked guns (yes, like that).
Gat Life: Boyfriend Bar is a short, free visual novel in which youâre a lonely person with a gun for a head looking to get a little love from other people with guns for heads. It is, in its creatorâs words, âthe first gay dating sim made to game industry standards. Includes none of the scary body parts usually involved in gay romance, the only naughty bits on display are all ESRB-approved and gamer-friendly.â
So guns. Yes, itâs more than a little on the nose. But it is, as ever, a statement worth making, given thatâon rare occasions when games do show sex and not just sexy charactersâitâs usually about T&A aimed at straight male audiences. No dongles getting toggled, as it were.
Your possible targets range from a svelte and sexy young buck, to a burly yet eager older piece, to a more gentlemanly classic modelâalthough only one actually progresses the story to an, erm, satisfactory conclusion.
But oh goodness, itâs such a perfect ending to a game about people made of guns. Hereâs a slightly spoilery (and maybe NSFW? I donât even know anymore) screenshot:
You can probably guess where it goes from there. Hint: fireworks.
Which is just hilarious to me. Guns go off in video games all the time, but pretty much never like this. Gat Life is a game with a single gunshot (or series of gunshots), but they serve as playful censorship of an act thatâs much less horrific on paper. Heck, itâs not even horrific at all. And yet, here we are.
Video games are weird. Donât get me wrong: theyâre getting better about these kinds of things! But still, theyâre in a weird spot. Gat Life is an interesting (albeit short and extremely simple) expression of that. Check it out here
Thanks for spotting this one, Rock Paper Shotgun.
