In the ongoing tradition of beautifully filmed, high-class live action Halo commercials comes “Birth of a Spartan,” Microsoft and Bungie’s promotional short for the Halo: Reach beta. That’s right. We’re doing beta commercials now.

The 60-second spot features the Spartan-izing of Carter 259, who you’ll soon better know as the future leader of Noble Team in Halo: Reach. It may look like Spartan training consists of little more than a few brightly colored injections resulting in bluer eyes, but the bio-augmentation procedure is apparently a candidate’s “final and most difficult ordeal” prior to joining the ranks.

The Halo: Reach beta starts May 3 on Xbox 360. Plenty of time to dissect “Birth of a Spartan” frame by lovingly shot frame or read our preview of the game’s multiplayer mode
