Heart&Slash is about a robot finding its place in a harsh world. With swords. And guns. And fists. And interchangeable heads. Thereâs also love to be found.
The first thing youâll notice about the game is that itâs got a really cool voxel art style mixed with cartoonish graphics. Itâs not all about the art though, the focus of the game is on the gameplay. The developers are trying to make a combat system that allows for a huge variety of combat situations with 75 weapons and 60 pieces of equipment. Every run randomizes the weapons you get, so youâll have to learn to adapt to whateverâs offered.
What I find most interesting is how they plan to explore the story between your character, Heart and the love interest, Slash. Unfortunately I wasnât able to get very far in the game, so I donât know how much is implemented in the current build, but the projectâs page describes it as your main over-arching quest:
The relationship between Heart & Slash will not be an easy one. Slash is a rough veteran of the dystopian world where Heart&Slash takes place, while Heart is a naive newcomer that believes it can make a difference. As Heart, you will meet Slash (and try to capture its attention) through several playthroughs. But how you do it will depend on the player. For each âquestâ (each opportunity to woo Slash) you will have a couple of opportunities that will end up defining the relationship. And how the meta-game will end.
Itâll definitely be interesting to see how this game shapes up, as itâs already looking pretty fun. You can back it and try out the alpha for yourself on the Kickstarter page, and vote for it on Greenlight here.
