Iāve only been to Toronto once, and it was in high school for a band trip. I think we went to āMedieval Timesā?
But the New York-based chiptune/rock band Anamanaguchi makes me want to go back. Not for any big event or anything, just to sort of slack off and wander around. Maybe get into some boss fights.
Their tune āAnother Winterā (above) is probably my favorite track from their soundtrack to the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World video game. As great as the soundtrack to the Edger Wright film is, I find myself enjoying the video gameās soundtrack even more.
So kicky, so grooving, excellent melody, dynamite breakdown/build-up⦠itās got it all.
Other album highlights include but are not limited to:
āBollywoodā
Yes. To this whole thing. The drum solo, the hilarious shimmering synth lead⦠all of it. Some of the most choice boss-fight music of our age.

āSkate or Liveā
I know itās about skating, but this tune is really driving. (See what I did there, do you, do you really?)

āSuburban Tramā
Like āAnother Winter,ā this is a great one for hanging out on the town with your friends and maybe getting into a superhero fight or two.
āMermaidā ā Live
And hey, this wasnāt on that soundtrack, but this is the band doing their thing live. Good times, guys.
