Blur, the upcoming combat racer from Bizarre Creations, features licensed automobiles. Howâd the Project Gotham Racing developer snag them?
According to Bizarre, itâs choice of vehicles helped â meaning, there arenât Ferraris or Lamborghinis. âIf someone doesnât want to do what we want to do then we just wonât put it in the game,â says Bizarre Creationsâ Gareth Wilson. âThere have been a couple of big manufacturers, canât tell you who, that have gone you canât set the cars on fire, and weâve gone, OK we wonât use your cars then.â
This flexible take-it-or-leave-it approach seems to have given Bizarre more confidence at the bargaining table. âAlso other games have kicked the door down for us as well, like GRID and DiRT,â he added. âWe had one thing with a manufacturer where they didnât want smoke coming out of the car, and we just said yeah but youâre in GRID, and GRID does smoke. And they went, oh yeah.â
Future ground that Bizarre hopes is broken: Flames coming out of a licensed car while moving. After that? Explosions!
