Nobody likes a Facebook spammer. You know, those people who you went to high school with but havenât talked to in ten years who seem to do nothing but water their FarmVille crops and maintain their CityVille cities. Theyâre the worst!
Zyngaâs newest game, FarmVille 2, launched yesterday. I may not be totally sold on it, but that doesnât mean Iâm not gonna play it! However, if you want to play a Zynga game (or a Zynga-like game), be warned: The game will do its best to turn you into the worst kind of spammer. Fortunately, thereâs an easy way to keep that from happening.

When you fire up FarmVille 2 for the first time, youâll be given an option to select some of the application settings.
Youâll want to change the settings for âposts on your behalfâ to âonly me.â
That means that only you will see the wall-posts that the game puts up. Once youâve got that going, you can rest easierâthe game will still post a ton of junk to your wall, but no one else will be able to see it. Youâll have a whole spam buffet all to yourself. Mmmm, delicious spam.
If you started playing yesterday and didnât check that setting (like I did), you can also go in and change it after the fact. Just click on your âAppsâ to the side of your Facebook homepage, then click on the pencil next to the FarmVille 2 tab.
Then, go into settings and select the âonly meâ setting.
If you REALLY donât want to share anything at all, you can also uncheck this box every time the game rewards you for something:
Because if you donât take the above steps, this is what your friends are going to see:
In a real farm, you live under constant threat of drought. In a FarmVille farm, you live under constant threat of accidentally spamming your friends.
Though no matter what you do, youâre still probably going to send your friends some kinda dumb stuff, like the email I sent to my boss Stephen:
Hay, nobody ever said farming was easy.
