In the latest episode of Chris Hardwickâs Nerdist podcast, Michael âWorfâ Dorn discusses his role in the big screen adaptation of Castlevania, a movie I had absolutely no idea was in production.
In between discussions about piloting airplanes and the challenge of sticking to his vegan diet during film shoots, the actor known for portraying the opera-loving Klingon officer upon Picardâs Starship Enterprise revealed that the role he was currently working on was in the movie based on Konamiâs storied vampire-hunting franchise.
I sat in the parking lot of the Fryâs in Alpharetta, Georgia on Saturday evening, staring at my iPhoneâs music application. âWhat Castlevania movie?â I asked myself. Then I went inside and bought a bunch of fun things and promptly forgot I had heard him say it, like an idiot. Thankfully the folks at G4TV reminded me this morning of why I should keep a notepad with me at all times. They heard by way of Polygon, which in turn linked to an interview on StarTrek.com that apparently everyone had missed, so I donât feel as bad. From that interview:
Castlevania is a movie that Marina (Sirtis) got me involved with. Itâs based on a video game. People have been trying to get this thing done for a long time and they finally got the producers together that want to do it. They finally got the OK from the owners, and so theyâre doing it. Itâs a fun little part. Itâs four days, and Iâm playing a werewolf thatâs been around for a gajillion years who works for this vampire. Itâs not too far from Worf because thereâs a lot of killing and jumping and sword fights and everything.
Itâs pretty amazing that a movie based on Castlevania, a project weâd heard nothing about since 2010, has quietly slipped into filming without anyone knowing it. Surely there are supernatural forces at play.
