Mark Cerny, a developer known for his work with Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games ā and for his 1984 arcade hit Marble Madness ā has been selected to the Hall of Fame of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.
Cerny joins only Will Wright and Shigeru Miyamoto as developers honored by both the AIAS hall of fame and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Game Developers Choice Awards. Cernyās lifetime achievement honor came in 2004.
Cernyās 25-year career in programming saw him help to establish PlayStation mainstays Naughty Dog and Insominiac. His most recent work has been with Ice Team, the internal core development group for Sony.
āMark Cerny is the closest we have come to a modern-day Da Vinci,ā AIAS president Joseph Olin said in a statement. āWhat he does isnāt restricted to a single aspect of game creation, he really is a Renaissance man.ā
Cerny will be inducted into the AIASā hall of fame during the academyās award show in Las Vegas this February.
āIām thrilled to accept this award, which clearly has a lot to do with the drive and talent of the many teams that Iāve had the pleasure to work with over the years,ā Cerny said in a statement.
