Over the weekend Nintendo celebrated its annual Mario Day celebration on March 10. That celebration included a cornucopia of sales on Switch games and accessoriesāsome of which you can still take advantage of by checking out our sales guideā and a few surprise announcements from Nintendo itself in honor of the beloved plumber.
These announcements included confirming release dates for upcoming games, reviving some retro classics, and a message from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamato. Hereās everything that Nintendo revealed on Mario Day.
A New Super Mario Bros. Movie
In amessage from Shigeru Miyamato, it was announced that a new animated film, ābased on the world of Super Mario Bros.ā is in production at Illumination and will be released on April 3, 2026. No further details were given on the film so it is still unclear if this will be a sequel or a spinoff to 2023ās The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Release dates for two upcoming games

We already knew about the Luigiās Mansion 2 remaster and the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remake coming to Nintendo Switch, but we didnāt have release dates until now. Both announcements were made via official Nintendo social media accounts on Mario Day. The Thousand Year Door will be released first on May 23rd, with Luigiās Mansion 2 HD coming a month after on June 27. Both titles continue Nintendoās string of remakes and remasters of late, something that many feel is a sign that newer titles are being saved for the imminent release of a Switch successor
Switch Online adds three new Mario titles
Nintendo Switch Online, the consoleās subscription service that gives players access to a collection of titles from retro consoles, is getting some new games. The Game Boyās Dr. Mario and the Game Boy Colorās Mario Golf and Mario Tennis will arrive on Switch Online March 12
LEGO Mario Kart set is coming next year
LEGO and Nintendo have made several Mario sets together in the past and are teaming up yet again. A short teaser video announced that a LEGO Mario Kart set will be released in 2025.
