Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the first major Castlevania title in years. But it’s not being developed in Japan. And neither series curator Iga or his whip are anywhere to be seen.

Instead, meet MercurySteam, pictured here with Hideo Kojima, who will be “helping out” on the project. MercurySteam are Spanish developers, who are probably best known for their work on
 Clive Barker’s Jericho. And American McGee’s Scrapland. Not the finest pedigree, we admit, but everyone’s gotta start somewhere!
