Minecraftâs creator revealed on Friday that heâs working on an achievement system for the PC gaming obsession. He didnât specify when that will be implemented, but he did say something newâs coming in the gameâs next update: Wolves.
Wolves will be a new mob within the game, Markus âNotchâ Persson said. âYou can tame it and order it to follow you around, and itâll work as a pet. Theyâre fairly rare, but they wonât despawn once youâve tamed them.â
He uploaded that video, which shows wolves as more adorable than ferocious. Wonder if this took any inspiration from Okamidenâs release last week?
As for achievements, Persson had said before that heâd considered the idea for a while. Heâs now working on it. âWeâve got a couple of people in the office who donât like achievements in games at all, so the goal is to design something that theyâre fine with,â he writes.
Right now, âAchievements will NOT be chores like âcut down 10000 treesâ, but rather challenges like âride a pig off a cliff.'â There will be a statistics system that keeps track of how much work youâve done, such as cutting down trees. But Persson acknowledges that because users may design their own levels and run their own servers, achievements and stats will invariably be subject to cheating.
