King Kong (2005)
After the success of his Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson turned to another passion project, remaking the classic monster movie that helped inspire his own filmmaking career. Though it makes the most of modern special effects, it’s set in 1933, so there’s no getting this King Kong—made before Warner Bros. picked up the franchise rights from Universal—confused with the cranky ape currently roaring his way around the Monsterverse.
