Netflix will, by the end of October, ditch the disc necessary to stream movies onto the PS3, CEO Reed Hastings said in the companyās latest earnings call.
āBefore our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesnāt require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements,ā Hastings said.
Since the service was introduced last year, Netflix had vowed that a disc-less version would launch sometime in 2010.
Hastings also said Netflix is watching how PS3 users react to Hulu Plus. āOnce Hulu Plus has a few hundred thousand subscribers weāll be able to learn from consumers what they like about Hulu Plus,ā he said. āThen weāll work to incorporate what we find back into Netflix.ā
