Netflixâs The Witcher has finally given fans their first official tease of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia and yup, he sure does look like another brooding, white-haired himbo, just with an even bigger jawline this time around.
The Hunger Games star is joining the fantasy adaptation to replace Henry Cavill in its fourth season, which is expected to release sometime in 2025. So far, fans have only seen Hemsworth as the titular monster slayer in a blurry onset picture where he looked like he was dressed in a costume from Halloween Spirit. He looks a little more properly Witcher in the latest Netflix tease:
We donât actually hear Hemsworth speak as Geralt, however, and that will be the biggest question surrounding him taking over of the role. Ever since CD Projekt Red turned author Andrzej Sapkowskiâs books into hit video games where Geralt was voiced by Doug Cockle, the characterâs been associated with a low, raspy, cool-as-a-cucumber-sounding stoic warrior. Cavill put his own spin on that approach, but mostly stuck with the gravelly, low voice. Whether Hemsworth will try that as wellor create a brand-new take on the character remains to be seen.
Cavill departing the show was a huge controversy back when it happened. The man behind Superman in Zack Snyderâs DCU appeared set to return to it before Warner Bros. completely upended those plans and handed the reigns over to James Gunn. Fans speculated that Cavill was ditching The Witcher series because he was unhappy with the creative liberties it was taking with the original text, but it seems more likely he just took some bad advice from his agent. Heâs now headed to the Warhammer 40K universe.
Netflixâs The Witcher is supposed to run for two more seasons, with both filmed back-to-back. Season three was a big letdown for some and spectacularly awful for others. Maybe Hemsworthâs Geralt can help get the show back on track.
