Minecraft is getting a story, and itāll be told through the lens of a narrative-driven game by Telltale.
Minecraft: Story Mode wonāt lay down the groundwork for any official lore, Mojang has said, but it will include characters and themes from the Minecraft universe.
Hereās the announcement from Telltale:
Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.
Telltaleās game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.
Itās being developed predominantly by Telltale, but Mojang has said that they and their community members will also have some amount of input to contribute. Like Telltaleās other gamesāThe Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and, most recently, Game of ThronesāMinecraft: Story Mode will be told through a series of episodes. But, as you will learn through an interactive dialogue on Mojangās blog, it wonāt be anything about Steve:
Itāll be out for Xbox consoles, Playstation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS and Android some time next year.
