In March, the Nintendo DS had a hell of a month, selling more than 700,000 units to portable gamers in the U.S. That was the same month the pumped up Nintendo DSi XL launched. Howād it do?
According to NPD figures cited by Gamasutra, the XL version of Nintendoās DSi system moved 141,000. Which is good? Not so good? Probably in line with expectations, if Nintendo of America were to offer its opinion. Itās certainly not disastrous, considering the new DSi XL was only on the market as of March 28, meaning 7 days worth of sales accounted for. (The NPD Groupās reporting period for āMarchā was February 28 to April 3.)
It performed better than the PSP, which sold 119,900 units, something to crow about.
But the Nintendo DSi XL didnāt quite do the numbers its smaller predecessor pulled in during its first month on U.S. store shelves. When the Nintendo DSi launched in the U.S. in April 2009, it did an impressive 827,000 sales.
