Iāve always been hesitant to get too excited about Kickstarter projects that promise to be ālove lettersā to the old-school RPGs that many of us love and cherish. It seems like every week thereās a new group of indie developers promising to make the next Lunar or Final Fantasy VI. It can get a little exhausting.
But! Liege, a game weāve been hearing about for a while now, seems to have done quite well for itself: over the past month the gameās creators have earned close to $60,000āfour times their goal of $15,000. The developers are now promising to bring it to PS4, Vita, and Wii U (in addition to PC, Mac, iOS, and so forth).
Liege, if youāre wondering, is a strategy-RPG āinspired by games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, and chessā with lots of lofty promisesāa mature story, 16-bit charm, old-school sensibilities. Itāll be split into a trilogy, creator John Rhee saysāand theyāre aiming for a December 2014 release.
It certainly looks neat, like many Kickstarters doāhopefully Rhee and his crew live up to backersā expectations. Check out the Kickstarter page for more details on the art, music, etc.
