Last month master pianist/composer Sonya Belousova charmed us with on the spot arrangements of classic Nintendo themes, many of which she had only just heard for the first time. I was hesitant to post her follow-up, but then I heard her version of âThe Scars of Timeâ from Chrono Cross.
Iâm currently in the middle of my eighth or ninth replay of Chrono Cross, so Sonyaâs valiant attempt at replicating the mournful wind instruments of âScarsâ with a massive custom string instrument arrived at just about the perfect time. Her version of âAerith/s Themeâ from Final Fantasy VII isnât bad either, especially considering the music doesnât evoke the emotional reaction in her that it would someone whoâd played through the game.
She also beats the hell out of the poor piano while playing the main theme from Skyrim, replicates the Halo choir with keys and recalls a past BioShock performance.
You can check out more of Sonyaâs work at the official PlayerPianoYouTube channel, including music from Street Fighter, Tetris and Akira. Theyâve also recently announced a full album of Nintendo themes for anyone who donates at least $10 to their Indigogo campaign.
