To say the release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete on Blu-ray in Japan gave the PlayStation 3 a “sales bump” might be underselling it. The movie’s re-release nearly quadrupled PS3 sales in Japan.

Of course, it’s not just the movie that’s lighting a fire under new PlayStation 3 owners. It’s the release of the included demo for Final Fantasy XIII and the release of a limited edition “Cloud Black” console. Both helped boost sales of Sony’s current-gen console from 16,701 last week to 62,527 this week, according to Japanese sales tracker Media Create.
