When publishers are asked if their upcoming game supports downloadable content, they typically hem and haw, noting they havenāt announced anything yet. In the case of Punch-Out!! for the Wii however, itās just not happening.
So says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, who flat out denies that the upcoming Wii boxing game will add any contenders beyond the already announced thirteen. So when will we get first party DLC, Reggie? Folks desperate to spend Wii Points want to know!
āIām certain that there will be opportunities for that down the road,ā Reggie tells GameTrailers TVās Geoff Keighley. āBut, really for us ā you know Mr. Iwata has said this many times ā the way we look at our first party is we look for a way to drive the install base of the hardware.ā
We suppose that Rock & Roll Climber might do something like that for Wii Fit Balance Boards. OK, thatās a long shot, but thatās the Nintendo DLC philosophy.
āThatās what weāre trying to do,ā Reggie explains. āThat coupled with downloadable content isnāt as great a match, but Iām certain there will be some opportunities down the road with downloadable content from a Nintendo perspective, just not on Punch-Out!!ā
But just think of the possibilities for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Reg. Youāre leaving money on the table!
