Wow, so today Scripps announced that after 150 years of publishing the Rocky Mountain News would be printing their last paper this Friday.
Iām not really directly impacted by this closure. I have a fulltime job at Kotaku, thank you very much. But itās still horrible news. I called into the office earlier today to see how everyone is doing. It sounds like the once bustling newsroom will be a ghost town come tomorrow evening. People are grim.
Itās sad to see so much history, so much knowledge, flushed down the drain by a company that so long rolled in the profits of its circulation. Four Pulitzers couldnāt stop the inevitable. Worse still is the knowledge that this first closing of a major daily, victim of the recession, will most assuredly not be the last.
