Music students at New York Cityâs East Side Community High School are throwing out their guitars, pianos and cowbells, with one program at the school instead teaching kids with PSPs and copies of Rockstarâs Beaterator.
âIt a fully featured studio that runs on a pocket-sized device,â says an instructor at the school. âTheyâre able to learn music theory in a different format. Itâs the same information; just a different way of presenting itâ.
According to a piece on CBS â which spends a great deal of time dealing with how many budget cuts the school is facing â East Side students are just thrilled, one saying âThis is music. Youâre making your own music and itâs really funâ, with another, Isiah Martinez, adding âI learned that you can make beats on the PSPâ.
Education as advertising? Itâs worked before, and by golly Rockstar, itâs working again.
