Sometimes we play games because we want stories, or otherworldly out-of-body experiences, or to drive a Euro Truck. Other times, we just want to kill some shit. Slain happily obliges.
Slain is a new sidescroller coming to Steam today, and it looks excruciatingly solid. It combines chunky pixels with gothic Castlevania-style environments, an elemental combo system, and a heavy metal soundtrack. Also, a few thousand spooooooky Big Gulp cauldrons of blood. Hereās the game in action:
And hereās what itās all about:
āBathoryn must battle his way through a doomed land packed with gruesome pixel art foes before ascending (or sometimes descending) each tower, defeating puzzles, traps and monsters alike. At the heart of each tower, he must confront a mighty overlord. Defeat it and Bathorynās quest continues. Fail, and youāll die gruesomely ā mauled by werewolves, disintegrated by floating monstrosities, squashed by great weights or torn apart by hidden blades. And you will failā¦ā
Oh, in case you were worried, yes, your character can windmill:

Slain should be available for purchase on Steam sometime today.
