Sonyâs original PS3 Slim price drop ad may have pleased gamers, but it pissed off the entire nation of Nigeria. As we reported, the ad was pulled, and now a reworked version has hit the airwaves.

In the original ad, Sonyâs fictional director of rumor confirmation stated, âYou canât believe everything you read on the internet. Otherwise, Iâd be a Nigerian millionaire by now.â
According to reports citing a statement from Nigeriaâs Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili, the African republic is up in arms over Sonyâs latest PS3 ad campaign. Specifically, it appears one line from one of the commercials is an âunwarranted attack on the reputation and image of the countryâ according to Nigeriaâs federal government. The government demanded an apology from Sony Computer Entertainment.
The official PlayStation web site ran this apology: âIt has come to our attention that a recent TV advertisement for PlayStation may have offended some members of the Nigerian community. We never intended to create a situation that would upset anyone, and we have taken action to immediately remove the advertisement from the air. We apologize to anyone this may have offended.â

The newly reworked ad features no mention of Nigeria, but instead features this line: âYou canât believe everything you read on the internet. Thatâs how World War I got started.â Wait until World War I hears about this, Sony. Itâs gonna be so pissed.
Thanks, Max!
