At this weekendâs EVO tournament in Las Vegas, where the worldâs best Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter IV and Melty Blood players battled it out, the man who made Street Fighter IV teased the unveiling of his next game.
Yoshinori Ono, the producer of Street Fighter IV and its Super sequel, has been teasing that project for months, but came closest to spilling the beans last night before the tournamentâs Super Street Fighter IV finals. Ono implied that game will be officially revealed at this yearâs San Diego Comic-Con gathering, where publisher Capcom typically has a strong presence.
Ono said that Capcomâs global head of production Keiji Inafune would be upset with him if he talked about his next project, but claimed âI strongly believe in two weeks, you guys are gonna be like, âIâm gonna buy that game next year.'â
As the EVO audience shouted out game titles, Ono said âWe will definitely make something a lot better than what you guys are saying right now.â Ono told Kotaku earlier this year that his dream project would be a new Darkstalkers game, Capcomâs 2D horror-themed fighting game series that hasnât seen an update since 1997âs Darkstalkers 3.
Ono has recently taken to his Twitter account, claiming that he successfully pitched a new proposal to Inafune.
While I was at EVO 2010 in Las Vegas this year, I didnât get to watch the finals, at which expert player Daigo Umehara won the Super Street Fighter IV championships. (I was there with my Meat Bun compatriots shilling Meat Bun goods, some of which are officially licensed by Capcom, in the interest of disclosure.) But Kotaku will be at this yearâs Comic-Con, where Capcom may or may not announce a new fighting game. Weâll obviously let you know if they do!
