You love them and they still work but, letâs admit it, your old consoles arenât looking as good as they used to. Like a lot of older electronics, theyâve become a sickly shade of yellow. But, it turns out that you can fix that with the same stuff used to color hair.
Over on NeoGAF, a member by the name of D.Lo has posted a step-by-step guide as to how to get rid of the yellowing. The key ingredient? Hydrogen peroxide developer crème, commonly used to lighten or bleach hair as part of re-coloring.
D.Lo rightly notes that the stuff is very dangerous and that gloves should be worn. He then goes on to detail how repeated slatherings of the crème developer, coupled with a few hoursâ exposure to bright sunlight, can get aged game machines like the PS1 and Sega Saturn looking almost new. The results shown are impressive. Just make sure youâre careful if you try to do this at home.
