Tanooki Suit Riot Winners

As PETA picked a peck of pickled trouble with Super Mario 3D Land‘s use of the Tanooki Suit, it figured to be a good time to ‘shop up a Tanooki-clad Mario enthusiast who’d rather cosplay than go naked. We’ve got 20 winners inside, including Zigzagoon—who also made ‘Shop Contest history!

Leading off, Deadphool (4) had the best PETA-themed entry, but it looks like the Zebra lady is holding a sign that says “NO FUP!” pan1da7 (14), LordThayer (12) and Hundredgunner (9) all turned in crowd pleasers. Thanks for the callback, jamaicanmecrazy (10).

Both Cleesox (2) and Garrison Dean (7) got in Casual Pepper Spray Cop ‘shops right as that phenomenon was taking off. Garrison Dean sprays them from the front, Cleesox from the back, but it’s the same nasty result. I don’t know why, but dry-roasted-peanuts’ (5) use of breakdancing mascots cracked me the hell up. TheBigCheese (18) pays homage to starred contributor Zigzagoon as a new Pokémon.

Overall best? stamp.your.foot (17) had a winner whether or not he chose to animate it (he did). sp00nsie (15) did a forensic examnation of the photograph and conclusively proved our cosplayer is Tobias Funke from Arrested Development. a.sievewright (1) imagines Mario as a Tier One Operator in a winning Medal of Honor spoof. SphessMahreen (16) sicced Panda Chun-Li on Tanooki Cosplayer for a crowd-pleasing winner.

But take a bow, Zigzagoon (20). What a wonderful, loving tribute to Tidus and Yuna in Final Fantasy X. Not in the ‘Shop Contest’s 20-month history has someone been both the overall winner, and referenced—by name—in another finalist’s ‘Shop in the same week. It’s fair to say your balls must be feeling as big as w3rthlesspe0n’s (19); try not to step on them when you run your victory lap in the comments.
