The Roots Offer a New Take on the Unofficial Theme Song of E3 2012

My, what a week it’s been. Almost every member of team Kotaku convened in Los Angeles to bust our legs running around getting all the best video game news we could grab, and we are all bushed.

If there was one trend I noticed at E3 2012 (beyond the guns and bows and helicopters and throat-violence) it was Carly Rae Jepsen’s splendid, near-perfect pop tune ā€œCall Me Maybe.ā€

The song was added to several video games, performed at the Nintendo press conference, and on the radio and internet just about everywhere we went. On Thursday, I walked past a girl who was singing the song out loud to no one in particular, and I realized: This is the official (unofficial) song of E3 2012.

So, I thought I’d put up this new version, featuring Jimmy Fallon and his house band The Roots backing Jepsen on a goofy, percussion-heavy acoustic version.

Which version of ā€œCall Me Maybeā€ is the best? The arrested-development themed ā€œCall me Maebyā€? The version the President Barack Obama sang? Another one I haven’t seen?

Discuss that, or anything else you’d like. Have good open threading (and a good weekend), see you next week.
