The Summer Of Old JRPGs: Final Schedule

We’re three days away from E3, which means it’s the perfect time to start thinking about games that came out 20 years ago.

As I announced last month, this summer I’m plotting out a special project—sort of a book club for old-school JRPGs. Every week or two we’ll play and talk about an old game, hopefully finding interesting things to say about how they hold up, what they mean, and whether they’re as good as we remember.

I certainly don’t think I’ll finish all of these games—a week isn’t nearly enough time to get through most JRPGs—so don’t worry about cranking through a 20-hour game every week. If you want to follow along, all you have to do is play enough to get a feel for each one.

So without further ado, here’s what the schedule will look like—and remember, these are the days we’ll meet to discuss each of these games, so you’ll want to start playing before each of these dates.

June 20 – Lufia 2

June 27 – Soul Blazer

July 4 – Break

July 11 – Chrono Trigger

July 18 – Break

July 25 – Final Fantasy VI

August 1 – SaGa Frontier

August 8 – Break

August 15 – Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete

August 22 – Star Ocean 2
