Mattel is the company behind some of the worldâs hottest toy brands, including Hot Wheels, Barbie, Fisher-Price, and Masters of the Universe. Now the company hands over the rights to create video games on those properties to THQ.
Up until now, several different companies have handled the creation and distribution of video games based on Mattelâs hottest properties, including THQ and Activision, both of which have released several Barbie and Hot Wheels titles. Now, as we briefly mentioned earlier today, THQ holds all the cards, as they form a multi-year alliance with Mattel, opening the toy chest for a whole new line of toy-based video games.

We really need a new Masters of the Universe game.
âWe are excited to work hand-in-hand with the worldâs No. 1 toy company to bring a new level of entertainment to its already incredibly popular brands,â said Martin Good, THQâs Executive Vice President of Kids, Family and Casual Games. âAs we have shown with the combination of uDraw and Pictionary, there is enormous potential for the strategic relationship between THQ and Mattel. Through video games, we can build on some of the most famous and classic toy properties in the world, as well as unlock the entertainment potential of the newest creations from Mattel.â
Several games are already in development, with the first to spring from this alliance are expected to hit by 2011âs holiday season. THQ will drop more details on whatâs coming at a later date.
I just want to press a button, raise my sword in the air, and shout âI have the power!â I suppose I could do that without a new Masters of the Universe game, but Iâd look terribly silly.
