This Summer, Nintendo Is Cutting Bonus Pay

More and more Japanese companies are feeling the pinch—Nintendo included. After posting its first annual loss in donkey’s yonks, the Kyoto-based game company is reducing its employee summer bonuses by 20 percent. #firstworldproblems

Last year, full-time Nintendo staff got the average of approximately 4.4 months worth of their salary as summer bonus. This year, it’s an average 3.4 months.

So while other Japanese companies are firing people or cutting summer bonuses entirely, those laboring in the Mushroom Kingdom still have it pretty good.
